Abstract
The Kakheti Regional Development Strategy 2014-2021 is a regional multi-sectoral strategy of Georgia’s Kakheti region. Among others, its goals and objective are to improve the quality of all kinds of agricultural lands; improve the quality and make an inventory of all kinds of agricultural lands; prevent flooding of agricultural lands; prevent crop damage; increase the potential for wine exports by improving the quality and legislative framework; develop wine-making through the support of the central and local governments and by encouraging SMEs; increase the volume and quality of cereals; improve the processing of vegetables and melons; growing of bio-potatoes; promote further development of fruit production by growing peaches and pumpkins and establishing storage facilities and processing plants; bee-keeping. increase honey production and recognise its export potential; improve the quality and production of livestock; poultry breeding encourage the development of family-run and small-sized farms, replace imports in the domestic market; ensure geographical accessibility and availability of various types of agricultural equipment; amelioration restore internal irrigation networks and provide modern technology, restore pumping stations and internal irrigation networks; develop the non-agricultural potential by studying the resource base and providing incentives for entrepreneurs; promote tourism by adding new destinations, developing infrastructure and improving qualifications; develop the region by raising investments; supply high quality water to the population and connect households to the sewer network; increase the efficiency of water supply and waste management; supply of natural gas to the population; rehabilitation of internal roads and drainage channels; improve street lighting in the region; provide internet coverage to people in the region; liquidate illegal waste dumps and manage waste in an organised way; spatial planning for the future development of the region; preserve forests and biodiversity by means of inventory and protection of biodiversity; improve the efficiency of protected areas management and increase their potential for tourism; improve the efficiency of air management by monitoring and preventing pollution; increase the efficiency of natural disaster management and prevention; improve environmental management by raising environment awareness; use renewable and alternative energy; and increase the employment rate by improving qualification, creating jobs in agricultural and tourism industries, and establishing professional associations.
