Law of Georgia on New Breeds of Animals and Varieties of Plants (No 4066-RS of 2010).

This Law regulates relations concerning the legal protection and use of new breeds of animals and species of plants. It applies to new breeds and varieties of agricultural animals and plants and establishes rules for their registration and protection. The Law also prohibits the use of genetic engineering methods in animal breeding and plant propagating material.
The Law defines the conditions for the protection of new animal breeds and plant species, including novelty, distinctiveness, uniformity and stability. It establishes procedures for the submission and examination of applications, testing of breeds and plant species, and their registration by the National Intellectual Property Centre. The Law further sets out requirements for publication, objections, and inclusion of data in the official register.
The Law specifies the rights conferred upon breeders following registration, including exclusive rights related to reproduction, use, sale, export and licensing of protected breeds and plant varieties. It also regulates licence agreements, including compulsory licences, and provides rules on the maintenance of protected material, liability for infringement, and the declaration of registration and certificates as void or invalid.
