Abstract
The present law established a legal basis for the "determination of and application of norms, rules and specifications for the purpose of accomplishing an optimal order in a given field of activities" (art. 1). Administration of standardization shall be the responsibility of the State Department of standardization, Metrology and Certification of Georgia (art. 4). The Department shall represent Georgia in the capacity of national standardization agency. "Standards" shall include Georgian State Standards, international and regional standards, and standards of administrative bodies, organizations, and producers (art. 6). State standards shall be developed for goods, processes and services of "intersectorial" importance. Characteristics of such standards are specified in section 7. Article 8 concerns standards of local authorities, organizations, and producers. Article 10 provides for the announcement, publication, and application of Standards. The remaining provisions deal with control and supervision of the observance of mandatory requirements of State Standards, responsibility for violation of standards, and promotion of standards. (16 articles).
