Abstract
This Management Plan sets out the framework governing designated mollusc aquaculture zones in the marine waters of Georgia. It identifies the zones covered by the plan and lays down principles and requirements for their management, including the organization of aquaculture activities, consultation processes, and the relationship between aquaculture operations and other uses of the coastal and marine environment.
The Plan regulates the conduct of mollusc aquaculture within the designated zones. It contains provisions concerning the species that may be cultivated, the installation and maintenance of aquaculture equipment and structures, the location and marking of aquaculture sites, operational practices, production conditions, and access to licensed areas. It further requires the implementation of quality assurance measures, including procedures relating to mollusc health status, product quality, sampling, and controls applicable before products are placed on domestic or export markets.
The Plan also establishes requirements concerning environmental assessment, environmental management, and oversight of aquaculture operations. It provides for monitoring and reporting obligations, compliance with permit conditions, inspection of aquaculture activities, and measures intended to ensure the safe operation of aquaculture facilities, including navigational marking requirements and obligations relating to the management of environmental impacts arising from aquaculture activities.
