Abstract
The National Strategy on Waste Management 2016-2030 and Action Plan 2016-2020 is a national sectoral strategy and an action plan of Georgia. Its main objective is to strive to become a country prioritizing waste prevention and recycling.
The Strategy aims to make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable. To this end, it is planning to develop legislation in accordance with the EU requirements and international conventions, as well as its implementation and enforcement; to develop and implement a waste management planning system on the national and local levels; to develop and implement an effective system of waste collection and transportation; to prevent waste, reuse, recycle and/or reproduce; to fully gain back the expenses for waste management according to the polluter pays principle; to strengthen and implement extended producer responsibility; to develop and implement the data and information management system about waste; and to strengthen the public sector on the national and local levels, as well as to strengthen the private sector and increase the public awareness.
