Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia Strategy 2014-2024

The Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia Strategy 2014-2024 is a sectoral strategy. The Company’s mission is to implement a high standard of management of solid domestic waste in the regions of Georgia and creating a system of safe and ecologically sound landfills in order to reduce their impact on the environment and humans.
The Strategy provides for the following long-term goals: completion of new, EU standards-compliant, landfills in every region of Georgia; creating an effective system to cover the costs of the new landfills; developing control and monitoring systems of new landfills; determining the pros and cons of incineration of organic waste (energy restoration); if the potential exists, production of gas on a small or larger scale; promoting the reduction of the waste on landfills; achieving a high level of waste recycling; full protection of the EU standards in waste management; raising awareness about waste management in the public and among the decision-makers; reducing the state financing by transitioning to alternative sources of financing; and introducing a separation at source with the participation of interested parties.
