Abstract
The State Strategy for Regional Development of Georgia 2010-2017 is a national multi-sectoral strategy. It consists of five chapters: General provisions (I); Ensuring effective management for a sustainable regional development (II); Development of municipal and infrastructure services (III); Supporting innovation, new technologies and entrepreneurship (IV); and Development of agriculture and tourism and environmental protection (V).
Among others, the Strategy provides for developing agricultural development strategy; passing the law about farmers; ensuring the production of endemic and traditional cultures (viticulture, wheat production, tea production, etc); inventorying of the public land in the ownership of local governments; creating the database of amelioration infrastructure and areas; providing credit to farmers and agricultural businesses; improving access to agricultural equipment; improving access to market; supporting smallholders; supporting eco-tourism and agro-tourism; improving the management of extreme natural events, natural disasters and risks caused by them; inventorying of forest resources and ensuring their effective use for the sustainable development of regions; increasing the role of protected areas in the regional development; ensuring an effective management of water resources; supporting an effective use of groundwater; planning and implementing global and local climate change adaptation measures on the Black Sea coast; supporting renewable energy; and improving the land resources management.
