Abstract
The Strategy for Agricultural Development in Georgia (2012-2022) is a national sectoral strategy. Its main vision is agricultural development by improving the food value chain.
Among others, the Strategy provides for raising the competitiveness of businesses including farmers; establishing research and extension centers in regions; creating farmers’ registry; developing the land market by privatizing the public land and creating land banks; developing the agricultural credit, insurance and leasing markets; determining the priority areas in the primary production and processing industries; improving the qualification of the people employed in agriculture; improving the higher education in agriculture; developing the business/technical skills of farmers and agriculture business employees; food value chain development; introduction of new cultures and species; developing a national marketing program in agriculture; promoting private investments to organize wholesale trade centers; improving the rural and agricultural infrastructure; registration of the existing amelioration infrastructure; improving access to agricultural equipment and service centers; developing rural infrastructure (electricity, water, natural gas, roads, etc); ensuring food security; developing a food security action plan; determining food security indicators based on the consumer basket; developing the market economy; institutional development of organizations in the sector; modernization of agriculture; control of food safety; certification of seeds and planting materials; improving food supply, food storage and crisis management; developing local and export markets; the policy to replace the imported products; promoting exports; protection of the environment; and sustainable development of genetic resources.
