Code of Practice for the Manufacture, Packaging, Distribution and Sale of Salt in Ghana.

This Code of Practice, developed by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) under the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), provides a regulatory framework for ensuring the safety and quality of salt across the entire value chain in Ghana. It establishes mandatory standards for the manufacture, fortification, packaging, distribution, and sale of both food-grade and industrial salt, emphasizing adherence to Good Manufacturing, Storage, and Distribution Practices. The guideline mandates iodine fortification levels consistent with Ghana Standards to promote adequate iodine nutrition and prevent iodine deficiency disorders. Specific provisions cover hygiene, labelling, licensing, and transportation requirements to prevent contamination and ensure consumer protection.
