Abstract
This Act establishes the Ghana Maritime Authority as a body corporate, defines its functions and powers, provides with respect to the administration of the Authority and provides rules respecting various other matters regarding the Authority. The primary function of the Authority shall be to regulate, monitor and coordinate activities in the maritime industry. It shall cooperate with other agencies in the field of protection of the marine environment and the prevention of pollution. The Authority shall be governed by the Ghana Maritime Authority Board, which shall include representatives of the Fisheries Commission, the Volta River Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Act grants regulation-making powers to the Minister in respect of, among other things, the prevention of marine source pollution and for the protection of the marine environment and response to marine environment incidents.
