Minerals and Mining Policy of Ghana.

This Minerals and Mining Policy is a nationwide sectoral document aiming at establishing a comprehensive and forward looking framework for mining that catalyses sustainable development. The overall goal will be achieved through the following strategic objectives (i) diversify the country's mineral production; (ii) promote linkages to minerals produced locally to the maximum extent possible; (iii) generate adequate geo-scientific data to promote investment; (iv) generate detailed geological information in designated areas for demarcation to artisanal and small scale miners; (v) provide opportunities for artisanal and small scale miners to access financing; (vi) enhance capacity in the management and development of mineral resources; (vii) optimize tax revenue generation and ensure transparent and equitable distribution of mineral wealth; (viii) assist in the development of skilled human resource and develop local industrial capacity; (ix) contribute to infrastructure development in mining areas; (x) use mining as a catalyst for wider investment in the economy; (xi) ensure high level of environmental stewardship in the exploitation and use of minerals; and (xii) promote social harmony between the mines and adjoining communities; and (xiii) promote good governance and transparency in the extractive sector.
