Public Health Act, 2012 (Act No. 851 of 2012).

This Act makes provision with respect to the protection of public health in Ghana and lays down rules relative to environmental sanitation (Part 5). Provisions on diseases of a communicable nature also concern the destruction of animals and the communication of the existence of communicable disease. The Act furthermore, among other things, provides rules relative to food vending and food-borne diseases prohibits noxious or offensive practices that may cause damage to the lands, crops, cattle, or goods of the public or water pollution.
The Part on environmental sanitation, among other things, prohibits sale of food unfit for consumption or under insanitary conditions; and causing of nuisance and environmental damage.
The Act establishes the Food and Drugs Authority and provides for registration of food intended to be manufactured, placed on the market, imported or exported and of exporters or importers of food. Other provisions concern slaughterhouses, meat and observance of food standards.
