Articulating National Pathways for Food Systems Transformation in Support of the 2030 Agenda: A Strategic National Pathway Document.

This Policy Document provides a Strategic National Pathway for food system transformation, defined as a series of activities involved in producing, processing, transporting and consuming food. The Document specifies actions for developing and formulating food systems: ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for all with sustainable consumption patterns and with a minimum impact on the environment and the natural resource base; boosting nature-positive production; building resilience against vulnerabilities, shocks and stress; enhancing private sector participation in the Food Systems. The Document aims at the achievement of the following milestones with targeted actions: 1) increasing access to land, financing and other productive resources that specifically target women, youth, and differently abled persons; 2) increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the health delivery system; 3) sustainable exploitation of the country’s natural resource base, through combatting Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, the enactment of soil and water regulations, curbing illegal logging and transportation of foreign timber through Gambian territory for export, promoting community forest management; 4) increasing food production, through climate smart agriculture practices and irrigation techniques, consumption of safe and nutritious diets, fortification of food, increasing access to markets for agricultural produce; 5)a harmonised and better coordinated policy environment that directly or indirectly affect food systems, through the establishment of a robust early warning system to natural disaster; 6) more privates sector involvement in the food systems; 7) promotion of national food reserves.
