Abstract
These Guidelines, implementing provisions of Part IX Section 32 of the Food Safety and Quality Act, 2011, apply to producers, processors, distributors, retailers, importers and exporters of animal feed, in order to allow them to produce and commercialise safe and quality feed that meet the local and international safety and quality standards. The Guidelines concern: protection of feed from contamination by pests, chemicals, microbiological agents or other objectionable substances during production, handling, storage and transportation; application of good agricultural practices, good manufacturing practices and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles; identification of potential hazards and their levels of risk to consumers’ health; location and surroundings of feed producing sites; facilities and utilities, including provision of adequate potable water used for operation and cleaning needs, and cleaning of water storage tanks; waste disposal and management system; transportation of raw materials and finished products; requirements for production and processing of animal feed, including avoiding use of veterinary antimicrobial drugs; vaccination and good disease prevention practices; labelling; traceability and product tracing; feed and feed ingredients.
