Abstract
This Guideline provides advice on the safe disposal of unusable medicines and related products, and describes methods for safe disposal of medicines and related products, in order to ensure minimal risks to public health and the environment. The Guideline applies to medicines and related products as defined in the Medicines and Related Products Act, 2014, and to the central medical stores and regional medical stores management. The Guideline concerns: prerequisites for disposal, including: decision, planning and approval, preparation, healthy and safety of work teams, disposal procedures, security measures; consequences of improper disposal, including: contamination of water sources and drinking water systems, sewerage system contamination; permitted disposal methods and inappropriate disposal methods.
