Abstract
This Act, consisting of 184 sections and divided into twenty sections, applies to all forms of employment except for civil service and armed forces, and concerns recruitment of labour, apprenticeship, the rights of employers and employees. The Act defines the following relevant terms: apprentice; business; contract of employment; employment agency; strike; trade dispute; wages. Matters covered by this Act include: administration of labour matters and establishment of the Commissioner of Labour; licensing of private employment agencies; establishment of labour advisory board; establishment and functions of the Industrial Tribunal; rights and duties of employers and employees; prohibition of child labour; measures on employment of women and of nursing mother; employment of persons with disabilities; maintenance and development of human resources; types of contract of employment; occupational safety, health measures and welfare for employees; protection of wages; right to collective bargaining and industrial relations; creation of a joint industrial council with members from the following sectors: agriculture and fisheries, commerce, port industry; fight against discrimination in employment and sexual harassment.
