The National Land Policy (NLP) 2026–2035.

This Policy sets out a plan for the responsible management, governance, and equitable allocation of land resources for the coming decade. It aims to address critical land tenure issues, enhance land use efficiency, and ensure that land contributes to the socio-economic development of the country.
The Policy focuses on strengthening land tenure security by promoting clear and enforceable property rights, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and marginalized communities. It proposes reforms to formalize and streamline land registration systems and increase public access to land information. Furthermore, the Policy seeks to modernize land administration institutions, ensuring transparency and accountability in land dealings and it aims to reduce land-related disputes by establishing effective dispute resolution mechanisms. In fact, it advocates for the creation of accessible and fair processes, including mediation and arbitration to address land conflicts at local, regional, and national levels.
In line with The Gambia's development goals, the Policy emphasizes the integration of sustainable land management practices to address challenges such as land degradation, urbanization, and the impacts of climate change. The Policy outlines mechanisms for land use planning that promote balanced development between agriculture, housing, and environmental conservation.
Furthermore, it focuses on inclusive land governance and community participation, ensuring that local communities are actively involved in decision-making processes related to land ownership, allocation, and management. The Policy also underscores the importance of land reforms aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and access to land for both commercial and subsistence farmers.
