Abstract
This Quality Policy aims at ensuring that goods and services provided in the Gambia and imported into the country are designed, manufactured and supplied to meet the standards, needs, expectations, and requirement of the purchasers and consumers in the local and international markets. The Policy defines the following relevant terms: certification; inspection; measurement standards; quality infrastructure; sanitary and phytosanitary measures, as all relevant legislation, procedures, quarantine treatments and all the necessary requirements involving the transport of animals or plants, as well as the packaging and labelling requirements directly related to food safety. The specific objectives of the Policy concern: strengthening the national metrology system; development and publication of national standards, clearly defining the role of the national standards organisation; coordinating the development of technical regulation and sanitary and phytosanitary measures. The Policy promotes its objectives through the following cross-cutting thematic areas: providing education and training services on quality; increasing public-private partnership; encouraging the adoption of relevant international and regional standards, and the improvement of international cooperation in coordinating standards.
