Abstract
The Agreement between the Hellenic Republic and the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (C.I.H.E.A.M.), regulates matters concerning the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania - Crete (M.A.I.X.). The Covering Board of C.I.H.E.A.M. by Decision of 10 December 1982 has decided to establish the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, which has consequently the statute of a C.I.H.E.A.M. institute and enjoys the same rights and privileges provided by C.I.H.E.A.M. to its various institutes. The Government of the Republic of GrECe has agreed to take the necessary steps for the operation of the Chania Institute. The Institute shall organise training courses and research programmes in the fields defined by article 1 of the "Agreement of 21 May 1962, establishing the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (C.I.H.E.A.M.)". The purpose of the Institute shall be, in particular: 1) the training of personnel able to contribute to the development of agricultural products at all stages up to consumer level, for the following crops: mediterranean crops; sub-tropical crops; horticultural and fruit crops; aromatic and pharmaceutical crops; 2) the training of personnel for planning, restructuring and conversion of the above crops. 3) the training of personnel for the development and implementation of the agricultural policy of GrECe and of the other Mediterranean countries in relation to the EC agricultural policy. 4) the training of personnel in the popularisation of farming techniques.
The Agreement is composed of 10 articles divided into 3 Parts: Part I (arts. 1-4) General Provisions: organization of the training courses and research programmes - establishment of a coordinating committee; Part II (arts. 5-8): provisions relating to facilities; Part III (arts. 9-10): Final provisions.

On behalf of the Greek Government, the Agreement is ratified by Act No. 1537 of 1985; (this Act shall enter into force as from the date of its publication on the Official Gazette, 19 March 1985). The Agreement was signed in Athens on 21 January 1983.
