Joint Ministerial Decision no. 145116 of 2011: Definition of measures, conditions and procedure for wastewater reuse.

This Ministerial Decision provides for: promoting the reuse of wastewater and the utilisation of liquid waste, in order to improve the saving of water resources, and reduce the impacts of severe salinisation of groundwater in certain regions; improving water balance through recharging of underground aquifers, in order to ensure protection of public health. The Decision defines the following relevant terms: wastewater reuse; liquid waste; direct and indirect reuse; unplanned reuse; recycling of industrial waste water; planned and unplanned reuse. The Decision applies: in planned reuse of treated liquid waste; in the reuse of processed industrial wastewater. The Decision covers the following matters: reuse for irrigation purposes; enriching underground aquifers; reuse with treated liquid waste for urban and peri-urban activities; reuse for industrial purposes; reuse of wastewater in urban system; conditions and procedure for issuing permits; controls and sanctions; microbiological and conventional parameters, minimum required treatment and frequency of sampling and analysis in the case of reuse of treated wastewater.
