Abstract
Aim of this law is the transposition into the national legislation and application of the provisions of Directive 2009/18/EC establishing the fundamental principles governing the investigation of accidents in the maritime transport sector and amending Council Directive 1999/35/EC and Directive 2002/59/EC as those have been implemented with Presidential Decrees Nos. 49/2005 and 314/2001 respectively, so as to improve maritime safety and the prevention of pollution by ships, and therefore to reduce the risk of future marine casualties. The provisions of this law shall apply to marine casualties and incidents that (i) involve ships flying the Greek flag (ii) occur within the national territorial waters and (iii) involve fishing vessels smaller than 15 meters which are registered in the Greek Ship Register.
