Abstract
This Act provides for establishing 28 protected area management bodies and agencies, as the legal entities, supervised by the Minister of Environment and Energy, whose purpose is the administration and management of protected areas, marine protected areas, national forests, parks and wetlands. The Act specifies the territorial jurisdiction and the name of each agency, and defines the following competences: drawing up, monitoring and implementing the management plans and the annual reports of the areas; efficient allocation and spending of financial sources, to promote integrated management of the areas; preparing studies and conducting research for the protection, preservation, restoration and promotion of the protected areas; collection, classification and processing of data and environmental elements; consultation with the local communities; management of public lands, and purchase and rental of private lands; assistance in the granting of permits for scientific research and technical tests; supporting ecotourism programmes and actions to highlight and promote local products. The Act concerns: establishment of board of directors and staff of each agency and of their responsibilities; evaluation and control of the work.
