Law no. 5019 of 2023 - Incorporation of Directive (EU) 2020/1828 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2020 regarding representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers and for the repeal of Directive 2009/22/ EC, strengthening consumer protection, regulatory framework for wine aging and other urgent provisions.

This Law, consisting of 103 articles, divided into six Parts provides for: incorporation into Greek Legislation of European Directives and related measures on consumer protection; measures for wine aging; provisions for enhancing agricultural development. Part I concerns the update of the legislative framework for the protection of the collective interests of consumers, through incorporation of European Directive (EU) 2020/1828 and amendment of Law no. 2251/1994. Part II provides for supplementary measures for consumer protection, with regard to: market operations, provision of products and services, supply of food and beverages for current consumption, protection of minor consumers; measures and sanctions for implementing consumer protection; enforcement measures for the protection of consumer rights in the financial sector.
Part III defines a regulatory framework for the aging of wines through underwater aging, and provides for: issuance of licenses for the simple use of seabed; definition of geographical indications and certifications; inspection and maintenance of watered cages of wine; labelling of bottles. Further Parts concern: strengthening of research, entrepreneurship and development; establishment of a Committee for gender equality in research and technological organisations; provisions for support agricultural development through: definition of grazing land, submission of grazing management plans, compensation measures, approval of the use of funds of the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organisation.
