Law no. 5136 of 2024. Control procedures, administrative measures and sanctions in the field of agricultural products and foodstuffs with Protected Designations of Origin, Protected Geographical Indications and Guaranteed Traditional Distinctive Products.

This Law, consisting of 31 articles, provides for the modernisation and reform of the control system of the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation "DIMITRA" for products with Protected Designation of Origin, Protected Geographical Indication and Guaranteed Traditional Unique Products; strengthening and acceleration of the system for imposing administrative compliance measures and fines for violations of national and EU legislation on products with geographical indications; monitoring of the implementation of the national and EU framework in the field of products with geographical indications; the establishment of a quality system monitoring system; the simplification of issues related to the labelling of foods in which these products are used as ingredients. This Law applies to agricultural products, including food, but excluding alcoholic beverages and wine. Matters covered by this Act include: control of products with protected designation of origin and protected geographical indiction; administrative measures and fines; additional provisions for protected designation of origin and protected geographical indication; identification of groups of producers of products; foods in which products with geographical indications are used as ingredients.
