Memorandum of Understanding in the field of environmental protection between the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works of the Hellenic Republic and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Albania (Law No. 3368/2005).

The two Parties, aiming to build and promote cooperation between the two countries for the protection of the environment, recognising that the environment of Albania and Greece is an essential element of the Balkan natural and human environment and taking into account the “Declaration on the creation of the Prespa Park and the environmental protection and sustainable development of the Prespa Lakes and their surroundings”, have agreed to cooperate in the field of environmental protection. To this end, the Parties, among other activities, shall: increase public awareness on environmental issues and promote environmental education as well as specialized training; undertake joint research efforts to monitor air, water and soil pollution and establish monitoring systems for this purpose; exchange experience to develop and adopt environmentally sound strategies and to implement joint programmes for the management of industrial, liquid and solid waste; cooperate for the environmental protection of coastal zones and for the control and prevention of marine pollution; cooperate for the environmental protection and management the transboundary rivers and lakes; cooperate for the conservation and protection of the natural environment and biodiversity, including the establishment of protected areas and especially cooperate in the protection of the Prespa Lakes and their surroundings.
