Abstract
This Decision approves the replacement of article 36a of the Codex Alimentarius referring to extraction solvents used in the production of foodstuffs and food ingredients. For the purposes of this article, 'extraction solvent' means a solvent which is used in an extraction procedure during the processing of raw materials of foodstuffs and which is removed but which may result in the presence of residues or derivatives in the foodstuff or food ingredient. The provisions of the new article, set forth in the text of the Decision, shall not apply to extraction solvents used in the production of food additives, vitamins and other nutritional additives, unless such food additives are listed in some parts of the article itself. Also the provisions shall not apply for those foodstuffs intended for export outside the European Community.
