Abstract
According to the provisions of article 6 of the economic, cultural and technical Agreement between the Government of the Tunisian Republic and the Government of the Hellenic Republic (signed at Tunis, 27 April 1976), the second Session of the Joint Greek-Tunisian Committee of economic and technical cooperation was held at Tunis, 21 and 22 April 1986, presided over by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - Head of International Cooperation (on behalf of the Tunisian part) and the Deputy Minister of National Economy (on behalf of the Greek part). Both Deputy Ministers expressed their willingness to take all necessary measures to ensure further expansion of economic relations and cooperation between the two countries. The fields of agricultural cooperation and fisheries were identified among the areas of possible cooperation, more specifically in the fields of: agriculture: the two parties have examined their respective policies on agriculture and have exchange notions on the possibilities of development and bilateral scientific and technical cooperation in the agricultural sector. The Tunisian part wishes to receive all useful documentation on Greek institutes of agronomic research, on programmes being performed, and on principal publications and data concerning basically the following sectors: creation of new fruit varieties and intensive fruit techniques; genetic amelioration of cereals (barley in particular) and animal feed; phyto-sanitary protection of the Mediterranean fruit species; improvement of the cultivation of table-grapes and raisins; development of the table-olives cultivation and conservation techniques. Both parties have agreed to encourage plant material exchanges in the means of research, in respect of the quarantine regulations being into force in the two countries. Both parties have decided for the institution of a Joint Committee of experts who shall meet in July 1986 in order to settle down specific programmes of cooperation and to establish a schedule for their realisation. Sponge-fishery: the two parts have agreed to institute a Joint Sponge-fishing Society and have also approved the conclusions and recommendations included into the Minutes of the experts' Meeting (held at Tunis, the 5-7 February 1985 and at Athens, the 24 February- 1 March 1986).
