Presidential Decree No. 405 on a harmonized safety regime for fishing vessels of 24 metres in length and over, in compliance with the provisions of Council Directive 97/70/EC.

With the purpose of implementing the provisions of Council Directive 97/70/EC, this Decree lays down safety standards for seagoing fishing vessels of 24 meters in length and over, both new, and existing, in so far as the Annex to the Torremolinos Protocol applies to the latter and are: a) flying the Greek flag, b) operating in the internal waters or territorial sea of Greece and c) landing their catch in a Greek port. Recreational craft engaged in non-commercial fishing are excluded from the scope of this Decree. The provisions of this Decree are without prejudice to the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 17/96 (implementing Council Directive 89/391/EEC), its individual Directives and, in particular Council Directive 93/103/EC concerning the minimum health and safety requirements for work on board fishing vessels, which was incorporated into the Greek legislative framework with Presidential Decree No. 281/96. The Decree implements all articles and Annexes connected to the Directive.
