Summary text of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan 2023-2027.

This Strategic Plan outlines the main Policy objectives and interventions for the development of the agricultural sector and the rural areas of Greece, in line with the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union, in order to: support the sustainable development of the agriculture and food sectors, ensure sustainable agricultural incomes, enhance competitiveness of the sector, and contribute to the environmental and climate objectives, at national and European level. The Strategic Plan covers the whole range of interventions of the Common Agricultural Policy, which are co-financed by European specific funds for direct payments and sectoral programs (Pillar 1) and for rural development interventions (Pillar 2). The interventions provided in this Strategic Plan include: financial support for investments in agricultural holdings and enterprises; public investments for water management and forest protection; compensation for farmers who adopt environmentally friendly practices; improvement of the farmers’ position in the value chain; demographic renewal of the rural workforce; programmes for sustainable development of rural areas.
The Strategic Plan provides for the following interventions and programmes for the period 2023-2027: strengthening of local development, public infrastructure, investment for the local population, initiatives with social and environmental dimensions; increasing agricultural land under organic production, agri-environmental interventions for pesticides limitation and animal welfare support, investments for improving living conditions of animals, and for upgrading biosecurity; establishment of the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System, to foster modernisation, training and education in modern technologies, innovation and knowledge dissemination in the agri-food sector; support for young farmers, to encourage their participation in the rural work; measures for the implementation of improved crop cultivation practices, the application of circular economy practices; the environmental management of livestock systems, strengthening of agroforestry and organic farming methods; sectoral programmes concerning cultivation of fruit and vegetables, olive oil and table olives, honey and wine.
