Abstract
The Fisheries Resource Management Plan aims at ensuring the sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources. The specific objectives of the Plan are: a) Monitor the activity and control the captures of industrial and artisanal fleets operating in national waters; b) Control the fishing effort exerted by the fleets in operation, with a view to guaranteeing the economic and ecological sustainability of the different fisheries and preventing their over-exploitation; c) Assess the state of fish stocks for demersal and pelagic species in the Guinea-Bissau EEZ; d) Propose fishing opportunities for each fisheries in order to ensure the sustainable exploitation of these resources; e) Propose measures to mitigate the influence of activities in the artisanal fishing subsector; f) Determine the percentage of by-catch for each fisheries. To prepare this plan, all statistical information on the activities of the industrial fishing fleet operating in the Guinea-Bissau EEZ was compiled and analyzed; stock assessment campaigns in the EEZ; scientific fisheries carried out in the rias of Guinea-Bissau; results of the reports of the Guinea-Bissau Scientific Committee and the European Union; data on characteristics of industrial and artisanal fishing fleets; socioeconomic survey; agreements and other bibliographic references.
