Abstract
This Strategy Plan on Nutrition (2015–2019). The purpose of the national nutrition policy is to ensure a productive human capital through good nutrition of the population, to contribute more effectively to the development of the country. Its overall goal is to improve the nutritional status of the population in Guinea-Bissau, in particular the vulnerable, creating synergies between direct action and nutrition sectors sensitive to nutrition. The overall objective of the Strategic Nutrition Plan 2016-2020 is to ensure the implementation, extension and synergy of direct nutrition interventions and sectors sensitive to nutrition, to improve the nutritional status of Guineans. The specific objectives to be achieved by 2020 are as follows: Reduce by 15% the rates of malnutrition in the population according to the life cycle; reduce by 15% overfeed rate in the population; increase by 30% to household food security; improve inter-sectoral coordination of nutrition; improve nutritional monitoring; improving behaviours for good nutrition.
At the end of 2020, the following results are expected: the rate of prevalence of stunting, acute malnutrition and weight deficit in children 6-59 months are reduced by 15%; the prevalence of anemia in children 0-23 months is reduced by 15%; the prevalence rate of malnutrition in mothers is reduced by 15%; the prevalence rates of overweight and obesity are reduced by 15%; the prevalence rate of anemia among mothers is reduced by 15%; the household food security is increased by 30%. Specific objective 1: Reduce by 15% the rates of malnutrition among vulnerable groups. To prevent malnutrition from conception up to the age of 24 months and other critical periods during the life cycle, the following strategies are planned: Strategy 1: Promotion of good nutrition of women of reproductive age. The good mother's nutrition has advantages over their own health, about the survival of the child from intrauterine life, and allows to break the intergenerational cycle of mother-child malnutrition (pag. 21).
For social protection, there was the emergency agricultural support to vulnerable families affected by food insecurity and malnutrition, as well as food activities for work (food for work) and cash for work (working for money) to improve their access to food kinds.
