Abstract
This Act lays down provisions on the protection of animals during transport and health care provision and at the time of slaughtering, humane killing and raising; prohibited acts; handling of animals in slaughterhouses; establishment and functions of the Animal Welfare Commission; principles for the keeping of animals used for production purposes and inspection of animals, premises and equipment; treatment of non-ambulatory animals; principles for the establishment, duties and obligations of animal shelter; and offences and penalties. The Minister may make regulations generally for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this Act, including the methods and equipment to be used for slaughtering and humane killing of an animal, the requirements and conditions for transportation of animals, the conditions of resting points and assembly centres for animals, registration of animals used in experiment and used for production purposes, and terms and conditions for capturing animals. Moreover, this Act shall be in addition to and not in derogation of any other law relating to offences prescribed in this Act in relation to animals.
