Drainage and Irrigation Act.

The Act provides for the establishment of the Drainage and Irrigation Board, defines its powers and prescribes its duties with regard to matters of irrigation and drainage and the construction and maintenance of waterworks in Guyana.
The 82 sections are divided into 14 Parts: Without Title (sects. 1 and 2); The Drainage and Irrigation Board (Part I); Certain Property to Vest in the Board (Part II); Declaration of Drainage and Irrigation Areas (Part III); Construction of New Works in a Drainage and Irrigation Area (Part IV); Acquisition or Maintenance of Certain Works in a Drainage and Irrigation Area (Part IVA); Deposit of Further Places (Part IVB); Divesting Boards of Lands and Ceasure of Drainage and Irrigation Areas (Part IVC); Compensation (Part V); General Financial Provisions (Part VI); Offences and Prosecutions (Part VII); Special Provisions Relating to Certain Specified Drainage and Irrigation Areas (Part VIII); Provisions Relating to the Absorption of District Drainage Boards by the Board (Part IX); General Provisions (Part X).
Property of waterworks shall be vested in the Board in accordance with procedures specified in section 10. The Minister may asks the Board to ascertain if areas are suitable for irrigation (sect. 11). (6 Schedules)
