Abstract
This Act provides rules for the prospecting for and the production of petroleum in Guyana. It also provides rules relative to exercise of surface rights in areas subject to prospecting or drilling such as grazing and cultivation.
The Minister shall appoint an officer of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission as Chief Inspector for purposes of this Act. Searching for or taking of petroleum requires a licence to be granted by the Minister, who may enter into an agreement with a potential licensee. The Act grants powers to the Minister to issue Regulations on various matters including the conservation of water resources.
