Law on the import of food and feed from foreign countries.

Abstract
This Law determines the competent authorities, the tasks of the competent authorities, inspection and border control issues, transport and temporary storage of the consignment, and reporting to the competent authorities and to the European Commission, all provisions aimed to define the rules for safe and controlled import of food and animal food/feed from foreign countries (not member states of the European Union) into the republic of Croatia.
This Law also introduces the obligation to implement and observe the rules brought by the following international documents: Commission Regulation (EC) No. 669/2009 of 24 July 2009 on the implementation of the Regulation (EC) No. 882/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the increased level of official controls on imports of certain foods and food of non-animal origin and on amendments to the Decision 2006/504/EC; Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1135/2009 of 25 November 2009 on the introduction of the special conditions governing the import of certain products originating in or consigned from China and its repealing Decision 2008/798/EC, including all eventual amendments; Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1151/2009 of 27 November 2009 governing the import of sunflower oil from Ukraine due to the risk of contamination with mineral oil and its repealing Decision 2008/433/EC; Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1152/2009 of 27 November 2009 laying down special conditions for the import of certain foodstuffs from some foreign/third countries due to the risk of aflatoxins contamination, and its repealing Decision 2006/504/EC; Commission Regulation (EU) no. 258/2010 of 25 March 2010 governing the import of guar gum from India due to contamination risk by pentachlorophenol and dioxins, and its repealing Decision 2008/352/EC, with all eventual amendments; Implementing Regulation (EU) no. 996/2012 of 26 October 2012 laying down special rules for imports of food and feed originating in or shipped from Japan after the incident at Fukushima nuclear power plant and that repeals the Regulation (EU) no. 284/2012; Implementing Regulation (EU) no. 844/2011 of 23 August 2011 on Canada approved pre-export review of wheat and wheat flour regarding the presence of ochratoxin A; Implementation of the Commission decision 2011/884/EC of 22 December 2011 on emergency measures regarding the unauthorized genetically modified rice in rice products originating from China; and Commission Decision 2008/47/EC of 20 December 2007 on United States approved pre-export review of peanuts and peanut products for the presence of aflatoxins.
The Law is divided into VII Chapters and 18 articles, including the offences and related penalties.
