Abstract
This Regulation sets minimum requirements for the protection of breeding animals or animals kept for production purposes.
The provisions of this Regulation shall not apply to: a) animals living in the wild; b) animals in competitions, exhibitions, cultural or sporting events or activities; c) animals for experiments; d) invertebrates.
The holder must take all reasonable measures to ensure the welfare of animals in his care and that to these animals no unnecessary pain, suffering or injury is caused.
The competent authority shall submit to the European Commission reports on inspections and on collected data.
The Annex is an integral part of this Regulation.

Entry into force notes
This Regulation enters into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette, except for the provisions of article 5, paragraph 2 that will enter into force on the day of Croatian entrance into the European Union.
Notes
With the entry into force of this Regulation, the articles 19 to 30 of the Regulation on conditions for farms and requirements for the protection of farm animals (Official Gazette 136/05, 101/07, 11/10 and 28/10) will be no longer in use.
