Abstract
This Regulation provides for all necessary standards and conditions aimed to offer the full protection of animals reared and kept for the production of meat, skin, fur or other products, and specifically during their movement, restraint, stunning, slaughtering and killing, including killing of animals for the purpose of disease control.
The owner or a person responsible for animals shall ensure that animals slaughtered or killed in any slaughterhouse, on a farm, premises or other places are spared of any avoidable excitement, pain or suffering during movement, restraint, stunning, slaughtering or killing.
The provisions of this Regulation shall not apply to: technical or scientific experiments on animals related to the procedures mentioned above, carried out under the supervision of the competent authority; animals which are killed in cultural or sports events; wild game animals killed in compliance with other Regulations.
The Annex is an integral part of this Regulation.
