Decree No. 120 of 1999 (VIII. 6.) Korm. of the Government on duties relative to the conservation of waters and to the maintenance of public water works.

This Decree shall apply to surface waters and to public water works (except for water supplying facilities) owned by the state or by municipalities. The Annex to the Decree lists the operations that must be performed regularly or when required. Main subjects regulated by this Decree regard: the conservation of beds and banks of waters; the use of bed; flood prevention dikes; conservation of reeds. Duties of the maintainer relative to urban water planning are also determined. Water managing companies may be established for the execution of water conservation works. These companies act as administrators on behalf of the owner of the water resource or water works in virtue of a contract.
