Law 64/2001 on the protection of cultural heritage.

This Law covers elements of cultural heritage, as well as all activities, persons and organizations related to them. The protection of cultural heritage according to this law does not affect the protection of its elements based on other legislation. The provisions of this Law are made for the purpose of creating the legal conditions for the exploration, scientific processing, preservation, protection, sustainable use and making public property of the cultural heritage accumulated in the course of national and universal history; and in order to regulate the activities aimed at preserving the national and universal cultural heritage, define the tasks and further simplify and make the official procedures more efficient, as well as promote the transfer of cultural values of outstanding importance to the state ownership. The protection of cultural heritage is a public interest, and its implementation means the right of cooperation and the obligation of cooperation for state and local government bodies, ethnic organizations, religious communities, civil and business organizations, and citizens. In international cooperation, the protection of Hungarian-related cultural heritage beyond the borders and the cultural heritage of other nations located in our country must be enforced in accordance with international treaties.
