Abstract
This document is a Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 26, 2019, in Budapest, Hungary, by representatives of five countries sharing the Tisza River Basin: Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The Memorandum aims to strengthen cooperation for implementing the updated Integrated Tisza River Basin Management Plan (ITRBM Plan), which supports sustainable development in the region. The signatories acknowledge the achievements of the JOINTISZA project, funded by the INTERREG Danube Transnational Programme, in developing the updated ITRBM Plan. They commit to adopting and implementing this plan, pledging continued support for the ICPDR Tisza Group's activities. The document outlines several key areas for cooperation, including facilitating dialogue between river basin management and other sectors, preventing accidental risks, assessing socio-economic impacts on water resources, improving waste management, addressing climate change, and implementing a Joint Tisza Survey. The signatories encourage collaboration on joint projects, invite support from various international bodies, and express interest in exploring long-term sustainable cooperation frameworks. They also appreciate Hungary's offer to contribute to future activities through its Tisza Office in Szolnok. This MoU represents a significant step in transboundary water management and environmental protection efforts in the Tisza River Basin.
