Abstract
This document presents the Updated Integrated Tisza River Basin Management Plan (ITRBMP) for 2019, covering the largest sub-basin of the Danube River shared by Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Serbia. It provides an overview of the basin's characteristics, significant water management issues, and measures to address them. The plan focuses on four key issues: organic pollution, nutrient pollution, hazardous substances pollution, and hydromorphological alterations. It also addresses groundwater quality and quantity, as well as water quantity issues like floods, droughts and climate change impacts. The plan assesses the status of surface and groundwater bodies and outlines environmental objectives and exemptions. A joint program of measures is proposed to improve water status, integrating water quality and quantity management. The plan was developed through the JOINTISZA project, funded by the EU Danube Transnational Programme, and builds on the previous 2011 ITRBMP. It aims to strengthen cooperation between river basin management planning and flood risk prevention to enhance water status in the Tisza basin, in line with EU water directives.
