Law Number 32 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems

This Law, recognising the importance of the biological natural resources and their ecosystems for the welfare of the Indonesian people, and that the conservation of biological natural resources requires necessary protection, preservation and sustainable use, thus provides for amending and improving the Law no. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems. This Law defines the following relevant terms: biological natural resources; standard utilisation of biological natural resources; protection of life support system; preservation of biological and natural resources; management of natural reserve areas and nature conservation areas; wild animals; wild plants; protection of habitats; preservation of genetic resources; management of national parks. This Law focuses on the following matters: conservation activities for living natural resources; procedures for establishing conservation areas in water areas and marine environment; issuance of business permits for activities within protection and conservation areas; strengthening international cooperation for conservation activities; prohibited activities, including hunting, damaging, destroying and transporting protected plants and animals; measures for trading protected animal and plant species, in compliance with the international obligations of Indonesia; methods for sustainable use of biological natural resources; protection of environment; adequate and sustainable funding for conservation and protection activities; community participation and involvement.
