Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 16 of 2023 concerning the Continental Shelf.

This Law provides for strengthening the legal basis for exercising sovereign rights and specific powers on the continental shelf, in compliance with National and International legislation and obligations. The Law details the definition of continental shelf; continental margin; natural resources; marine scientific research; artificial island; dumping of waste; archipelagic baseline. The Law concerns: boundaries and limits of the continental shelf; agreement with other countries to determine the boundaries; sovereign rights to explore and exploit natural resources; protection of marine environmental functions, and of biological natural resources; activities performed on the continental shelf, such as: installation of submarine cables and pipes; targeted measures to protect the marine environment from pollution; supervision and law enforcement; offences and penalties.
