Abstract
This National Family Farming Action Plan 2020-2024 moves from the consideration that family farming has been recognised globally as the key to achieving food security, realising Sustainable Development Goals, particularly poverty eradication, ending hunger, conserving biodiversity, improving sustainable agricultural systems. The Plan identifies positive impacts of family farming on the agricultural development: food production, business agriculture, poverty eradication, biodiversity preservation and environment protection. The following activities are related to family farming: working on rice and secondary crops, horticulture, plantations; cultivating forest crops; farming livestock and poultry; fisheries and aquaculture.
The Plan identifies these two objectives: increasing availability and accessibility of family food in accordance with nutritional needs and increasing family income. These objectives are achieved through seven core activities: identification of food insecure vulnerable areas and target farming families; central and regional Policy formulation; youth engagement and gender equality; strengthening the organisation and capacity of representative farmer families and generate knowledge through education and training; strengthening adaptation and mitigation capacity to climate change; improving access of families to capital, production facilities and farm insurance; development of diverse food cultivation, processing and marketing of agricultural products aimed at preserving biodiversity and the environment.
