Presidential Decree no. 97 of 2017 concerning National Policies and Strategies for Management of Household Waste and Household-like Waste.

This Presidential Decree, consisting of 17 articles, concerns the implementation of National and Regional Policy and Strategy for the management of household and household-like waste (JAKSTRANAS) throughout the period 2017-2025, and the related setting of an ambitious target to reduce Indonesian household waste volume by 30 percent and recycle 70 percent of its waste by 2025 and requires every region of the country to work together in achieving the target, by drafting and submitting of a detailed strategy on managing household waste. The Presidential Decree defines and explains the meaning of the following terms: household waste, household-like waste, source of waste.
According to the Decree, the Policy directions for reducing and handling household and household-like waste include improving performance in the fields of reduction and handling of waste. The reduction activity is carried out through limiting the generation of waste, recycling and reuse of waste; the handling activity is carried out through sorting, collection, transportation, final processing. The Decree also specifies: the content of the strategies for reducing and for handling waste; the organisation of the Policy and the involved institutions, at national and local levels; monitoring and evaluation activity; the indicators to measure the achievement of the target of reducing and handling waste; funding for implementing the Policy.
