Abstract
These Regulations seek to reinforce and improve the effectiveness of Flag State control on ships flying the Irish flag as required by Directive 2009/21/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council. They appoint the Marine Survey Office as competent authority in the State for the purposes of these Regulations and the Directive. The Marine Survey Office shall enhance safety and prevent pollution from ships flying the Irish flag that come within the scope of certain conventions of the International Maritime Organisation. It shall ensure that certain safety, audit and operative quality requirements are observed by Irish ships.
