Abstract
The purpose of these Regulations is to give effect to Council Directive No. 80/777/EC on the approximation of the laws of Member States relating to the exploitation and marketing of natural mineral waters. These Regulations should therefore be read in conjunction with the Council Directive. A person shall not market or exploit water as natural mineral water unless such water complies with provisions of the Directive and these Regulations (reg. 3). A person shall not exploit a natural mineral water spring or bottle its waters other than in accordance with provisions of Annex II of the Directive (reg. 5). Regulations 6 to 8 provide for treatment of waters, packing, and advertisement of waters. Article 4.1 of the Directive shall not be construed in such a manner as to prohibit in any way the use of natural mineral waters in the manufacture of soft drinks (reg. 9). Regulation 9 provides for enforcement measures and regulation 10 prescribes offences. (14 regulations)
