European Communities (Prohibition of Certain Active Substances in Plant Protection Products) (Amendment) Regulations, 1984.

The Regulations amend principal Regulations of 1981 to permit the immediate and controlled supply and use of aldrin to control a severe attack of vine weevil on gooseberries and blackcurrants on a farm in County Wexford. Treatment must be undertaken as a matter of urgency to prevent the spread of the larvae to a stage where they will no longer be susceptible to chemicals. Unless controlled now the pest will wipe out the fruit plantation within 9 months.
