Abstract
This Act amends existing fishing legislation by: (a) restricting fishing of certain fishing boats registered under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894 or the Mercantile Marine Act, 1955; (b) empowering the Minister to make regulations requiring sea-fishing boats to comply with certain conditions under the Fisheries Acts; (c) empowering the Minister, under the Fisheries Acts to prescribe or adopt, by Order, the measures of conservation of fish stocks and measures of rational exploitation of fisheries specified in section 4; (d) empowering the Minister to make regulations to give effect within the exclusive fishery limits of the State to Community legislation; (e) regulate certain aspects of forfeiture of boats, and; (f) regulate the registration under the Merchant Shipping Act and the Mercantile Marine Act of boats which are subject to grant of licence under the present Act.
