Abstract
These Regulations: (a) establish long-term objectives (in Schedule 2), target values (in Schedule 1), an alert threshold and an information threshold for concentrations of ozone in ambient air designed to avoid, prevent or reduce harmful effects on human health and the environment as a whole; (b) provide for the assessment of concentrations of ozone and ozone precursors in ambient air on the basis of methods and criteria common to the Member States of the European Communities; (c) provide for the availability (to the public) of adequate information on ambient ozone levels, risks and emergencies; (d) provide for the maintenance of and the improvement of ambient air quality with respect to ozone levels; and (e) promote increased cooperation with Member States of the European Communities, in reducing ozone levels, use of the potential of transboundary measures and agreement on such measures. The Regulations also provide for advice by the Environmental Protection Agency to local authorities and for air pollution action plans for short term risks of in case of excessive ozone levels.
